Acer Revo RL100-UR20P Review

Acer Revo RL100-UR20P ($ 569.99 list) merges the world of home theater in a nettop PC Slim, resulting in a Blu-ray playback, Internet browsing, multimedia machine consumption. If you are looking for an innovative PC-RL100 UR20P has some fine lines and the best bang-for-male for a nettop everywhere. It has everything you need for IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) and Blu-ray fun on a big screen at a decent price, so it is the choice of our new editors "for nettop PC.

Design and features

RL100-UR20P seems to relax for the Sony PlayStation 2 Slim can be positioned vertically or horizontally, as the PS2, but the beginning of a couple of interesting embellishments that prove to be revolutionary. RL100-UR20P is equipped with a wireless controller, which acts as a touchpad / keyboard combination, eliminating the need to go out and buy something for the Logitech diNovo Mini media access and browse the Internet. And 'the power / mode button at the top: One click and the surface of the touchpad becomes sensitive to control the cursor. The second mouse button and a backlit keyboard appears on the same surface.

The touch pad is able to manage two shots fingers, and keeping your finger on one part of the launch pad of the right mouse button. The reassuring tone keys, when you write, but there is no tactile feedback, as in other virtual keyboards (eg, smart phones and tablets). The bottom of the regulator is volume control, a convenient way for TV-centric operating model. It 'important that the touch-sensitive to any kind of infrared remote control to replace TV-style remote control is not needed unless you are FF / REW for the attacker. Because it is small and flat touchpad / keyboard, you can get a physical if you have a lot to write.

Other system features include a media Blu-ray combo drive / DVD movie playback, home theater specific ports such as HDMI and S / PDIF, a 750 GB drive, and low power AMD Athlon K325, which does not require a high fan to avoid overheating. The RL100-UR20P comes with Acer Clear.fi ecosystem, which adds an easy to use layer on top of DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance). With Clear.fi, you can share photos, videos and music between computers connected to Acer laptops, desktops, and tablets like the Acer Iconia Tab A100 (Wi-Fi). It is easier to install than simply DLNA, but it's not quite as easy to use as Apple's Bonjour sharing in iTunes and on Apple TV. The system is included 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi or Ethernet port manages the network.

The system comes with three USB 2.0 ports (a bargain considering it comes with a wireless keyboard / touchpad), a media card reader, and a lot of preinstalled software. Some of the software sense, like Netflix to watch movies and TV shows online. Some pre-installed software is a little questionable: Times Reader (NY Times), Nook, Skype and eBay make their presence known on the desktop, with icons cluttering it. I understand that product placement contributes to lower the price of computers, but there are just too many pre-installed applications and icons everywhere. Topping the software pre-installed is a trial subscription for 60 days short McAfee Internet Security a few months longer.

Performance

The RL100 is UR20P AMD Athlon 1.3 GHz K325 works relatively slow, but the K325 is dual-core, multi-media system with the prowess of a bit. Dual-core system more NVIDIA ION will help the show 1080p online video and Blu-ray movies smoothly, showing a nettop can be enough if all you are looking for media consumption. But it is slower on the uptake when it comes to creating media: 5 minutes and 43 seconds to encode a video on the handbrake and 1:19 p.m. to browse Photoshop CS5 test image manipulation - the score comfort at best. In comparison, our editors took nettop last choice, the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q150 of ($ 399 direct, 4 stars), a test CS5 glacial 23:38. The Zotac ZBox AD03BR-U-PLUS ($ 519.99 list, 3.5 stars) is also running behind Acer in "about 15 minutes" for CS5. The largest HP Pavilion Slimline S5-1020 ($ 429.99 list, 3.5 stars) has an Intel Pentium dual-core processor gives 2:05 in the parking brake and 4:29 on CS5.

However, S5-1020 does not have a Blu-ray and many other features that make it so difficult to hound the Revo RL100 average.

The Slimline s5-1020 HP is a little cheaper and more powerful than the RL100-UR20P to be sure, but the S5-1020 is more or less a standard PC-Jane office in a small box (which is a very sturdy that the Revo). The RL100-UR20P exceeds that of HP with its innovative wireless controller, HDMI port and Blu-ray. The Zotac ZBOX is so similar such as the Revo, with its compact size, low power processor, and Blu-ray. However, the ZBOX is more of a DIY project: the system lacks an operating system (figure $ 99 more for Windows 7 Home Premium), is almost as expensive, slower, is much harder thugs, less memory system, and doesn 't have the remote control products.

The RL100-UR20P Revo features and is simply more efficient than the Q150 in all areas, but the price and the extra $ worth it for one of the PCs in your home the best theaters in there. So if you want to connect a low-cost PC for HDTV, the Acer Revo RL100-UR20p is one of the best options that exist, especially if you are looking for the best way to watch movies and Blu-ray IPTV on a big screen. For these reasons, the RL100-UR20P is our last option Nettop PC editors.
