Alienware M15x Review

The m15x is Alienware's latest games with an Intel Core i7, 15.6-inch screen, Nvidia GTX 260M. This monster is worth your asking price? Read our review to find out.

Design and build

Alienware is known for out-of-this-world designs and the m15x is no exception. After the flagship of the Alienware M17x, this is the second handset to use the new look "stealth". The m15x is a one-of-a-kind look.

The M15x is unusually large for a 15.6-inch laptop, almost two inches thick and weighing over nine pounds! The front of the striking M15x is a bit out-pointed by the user and is flanked by two speaker grilles threat. The front of the M15x is not vertical, but tilted down as well. The cover has a unique look is very big and square at the top to match the front of the frame when closed. I like the way it is a space to enter the lid on top.

The M15x laptop is very well built. It has an internal structure is solid and an important force of flexion. The deck is incredibly powerful, that resists twisting better than other 15.6 "laptops thanks to the support casing in one piece. The lid is securely attached to the chassis by a solid hinge. In general, this notebook is extremely strong.

Building materials consist of a thick plastic and magnesium. Palm and the keyboard is surrounded by a texture of plastic and have a matte surface, which is welcome, because it does not show dust and fingerprints easily. The polished surfaces of this notebook is really just the speakers, the Media button strip above the keyboard and the screen surface itself. Base frame and back cover are made of magnesium, which seems strong. The only weak point of the build quality is part of the bottom surface of the air vents in plastic feels pretty thin and cheap.

While the quality of construction of the M15s is impressive, does not feel as strong as its brother, the M17x. The M17x uses anodized aluminum for the rear of the chassis and the cover is heavier than magnesium alloy M15x, but it feels more solid. The m15x has first-class quality of construction, but aluminum would be better.

One feature that deserves a special mention AlienFX customizable lighting system. There are several different lighting zones, users can choose different colors in different areas in the notebook, including the four parts of the keyboard, touchpad and multimedia buttons, power button, the Alienware logo on the lid, and guests of the head behind . Colors can pass to the application Command Center:

Lighting can be deactivated at any time by pressing [Fn] and [F11]. AlienFX is truly unique and adds aesthetic value.

Screen and speakers

The m15x has a 15.6 "LED-backlit display is available in two resolutions. 1600x900 and 1920x1080, and our test unit had the latter this display is positively amazing, it is very dynamic and has excellent contrast and brightness backlighting is remarkably sweet. and viewing angles are far above average; This screen is seen almost perfectly horizontal and vertical intervals of the generous screen surface is covered with a piece of "butt" of glass, which means a lot of thought, but a look flawless ..

The speakers are above average with lots of volume. The sound quality is not very high, however, acceptable for video games and Internet. The m15x has two headphone jacks, enjoy them for a better listening experience.

Keyboard and touchpad

The m15x has a full keyboard, but not the numeric keypad. The keyboard is quiet and the keys have a better finish rubber grip. Tactile feedback and key travel is good, the keyboard is feeling a bit 'rubbery, which is nice. The keyboard is quite rapid and accurate communication. I like the space bar curves.

The touchpad is an all-matte surface textured. The heavy texture prevents full contact with the finger surface area and makes the use of unpleasant touchpad, the mouse seems to lag across the screen while the follow-up contact because of less-than-sufficient. Both touchpad buttons work as expected on something noisy.
