Do not let the name fool you: Samsung Galaxy Prevail ($ 179.99) is not a high-end cell phone Samsung Galaxy S. However, it is a good functional, inexpensive device Android for those who want a smart phone budget. How good you ask? Boost charge $ 50 per month for voice, unlimited text and data on Sprint's 3G network nationwide. This price decrease by $ 5 every six months, you pay your bill on time until it reaches $ 35. It's not like it's news, but it is much more relevant today, when Boost is finally a device capable of taking full advantage of these rates. Of course, it may not have the same specifications as the high-end latest and greatest gadgets Android, but it is an excellent choice for anyone seeking Android in action on the cheap. Therefore it is our Editors' Choice for smart phones on Boost. He also cut our list of the best Android phones.
Design, call quality, and prices
The Samsung Galaxy prevail measures 4.4 by 2.3 by 0.5 inches (DRC) and weighs 3.8 ounces. And while the phone is surprisingly light, feels solid. It looks a bit to 4G Galaxy T-Mobile Samsung S ($ 199.99, 4 stars), with curved edges and a silver border along the outside of the phone. The back is made of black soft-touch plastic, giving a luxurious feel comfortable in the hand. The 3.2-inch glass capacitive touch screen LCD 320 x 480 pixel resolution, which is common in midrange phones Android. The screen itself is a bit on the small side, but was very bright, vivid, and appropriately sensitive to touch. Tap the onscreen keyboard felt tight predictable but very doable. Four function keys sit below the screen on the face of the phone, and lights when you touch the screen.

Samsung Galaxy Prevail (Boost Mobile) |
Prevail is a dual-band EV-DO Rev (800/1900 MHz) device with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. E 'connected to my WPA2-encrypted wireless network quickly and easily. The reception was average, and the sound quality was generally good. Headset calls sounded crisp and clear, if a little 'thin. At the other end, called the phone sounded good, even if the sounds are muffled and fuzzy touch. The phone does not completely rule out the sound passes through the city by bus, when I call, but I still hear my voice over pretty well. The calls were clear through the headset Jawbone Bluetooth aliphatic Icon ($ 99, 4 stars), and voice dialing worked well. Speakerphone is also clear, but I could not feel a bit 'noisy city street. Battery life was good in 6 hours and 33 minutes of conversation.
OS, applications and performance
Galaxy runs Android Prevail 2.2.2 ("Froyo"), which is a good thing, there are many features and performance enhancements to previous versions of Android that will improve the performance of the phone. Qualcomm MSM7627 800MHz while the three-processor certainly is not top of the line, I'd never know that security is used, not the performance felt sluggish. He also hit his closest competitor, the LG Optimus V ($ 199.99, 4 stars), all but one of our benchmark tests. This makes sense, because it uses a similar processor Optimus V clocked 200MHz slower.
The Prevail manages a stock of most Android build without an overlay producer. The phone syncs email, calendars and contacts to Gmail and Microsoft Exchange and works with many other popular email accounts. Android Market offers access to over 100 000 third party applications, nearly all should work fine on this unit, with its updated Android 2.2 OS and normal screen resolution. Curiously, Facebook is not busy on the phone, but it can be downloaded from the market. Twidroyd, the Twitter client pre-installed that works great, but I throw it in favor of the official Twitter application for Android.
There are some other free programs pre-installed, but overall, the phone is gloriously without bloatware. Both Google Maps and TeleNav GPS Navigator service voice-activated, turn-by-turn GPS directions for free, which also makes an excellent companion claim for your next trip. The stock Android browser works fine via the Sprint network, although I had some failures in speed when I had the lowest received.
The media, camera, and conclusions
The microSD card slot side worked well with my SanDisk 32GB card, and there are 110 MB free internal memory. MP3 and AAC sounded perfectly clear through a set of Bluetooth headphones Altec Lansing Backbeat (99.99-$ 129.99 $ 3.5 stars). Again, the music player is the Android market, and was quick and responsive, and displays the album art when available. There is also a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, which means that prevail can also function as a primary music player.
Video playback is another matter. The Galaxy prevail Samsung has very limited codec support for video files that play on other phones, you can not reproduce here. However, free PC / Mac program DoubleTwist (4 stars) is the size of video format office for the Galaxy prevail. DoubleTwist you download the codec issue is more than an annoyance than a major problem, therefore, suggest that, given the DoubleTwist free as part of a galaxy prevail purchase.
The 2 megapixel autofocus camera has no flash. The pictures were surprisingly decent, with good pop of color and detail of the righteous, and, interior, while useful, were not as good. The shutter speeds were fast enough. Unfortunately, the video captured by the camera is not as good quality, the image was soft and grainy.
If you are an impulse and try to upgrade to a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy prevail is an understatement. Even quite cheap, and with enough features to attract users who had never thought of Boost. The HTC EVO 4G ($ 199.99, 4 stars) and the Samsung 4G Epic ($ 199.99, 4 stars) have faster processors and more shows nice, but prices in the monthly plan is far superior Sprint Boost. The LG Optimus V at Virgin Mobile is a good step to the contract option, but the unlimited pricing plan, including the Virgin for $ 60, compared with an increase of $ 50, and comes with a bonus Boost reduction. The LG Optimus M ($ 149, 4 stars) on MetroPCS and Cricket C, respectively, coincide with rising prices, but carriers are not available nationally. In terms of performance for the price is concerned, you really can not go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy prevail.
