Toshiba Satellite L755-S5214 Review

If you are on a tight budget and looking for a laptop, it might be useful to consult the Toshiba Satellite L755-S5214 ($ 548.99 direct). It's not particularly quick or strong compared to other budget laptops, and duration of battery life is shorter. But for those who simply want to write word documents, surf the Internet and listen to music, it will do the job without causing too much pain to your wallet.

Design

The L755-S5214 14.2 by 1.9 by 1.2 inches measures (DRC) and a weight of pounds-small enough to fit in a backpack 5.23. It's a little lighter than some laptops price the same as the current choice of our editors, "the 5.5 kilos U56E-BBL5 Asus ($ 649.99 list, 4 stars) or 5.6 lbs-6013cl HP Pavilion dv6 ($ 649.99 list, 4.5 stars).

As with many budget laptops are L755-S5214 is a garment that is made entirely of plastic. It has a silver cross hatch design on the lid and keyboard deck are either subtle or particularly attractive, the Touch Pad, designed to be invisible, feel so good. Aluminum construction is becoming more common in laptops in the budget, however: we have seen on-U56E BBL5 Asus, HP Pavilion 6013cl dv6-and-1066A9U Lenovo IdeaPad V570 ($ 629.99 list, 4 stars). At least the plastic feels sturdy enough to use without worry.

With the inclusion of Nice is a Chiclet keyboard with full numeric keypad size. The keyboard does not align perfectly with the keys on the keypad and arrow, a design choice that takes personally drives me crazy (but others do not mind). Provides a smooth writing experience, if there is occasional flex tests. The touchpad is above the bottom of the housing so that some users may lose or slide out of it from time to time. It supports some multitouch gestures, such as basic movement and a bit of zoom, no problem.

A 15.6-inch panoramic screen with 1366 x 768 is more or less expected at this price point, and that's what you get on L755-S5214. It is spacious enough to watch movies in 720p, alone or with a friend, or to switch between two or three programs and still have some room to spare.

Features

The L755-S5214 comes with enough standard connections for a laptop budget. It has three USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, VGA port, and headphone and microphone. There are many formats, memory card reader (SD / SDHC / SDXC / MS / MMC), even if it is inappropriate on the front of the system.

Network, an Ethernet port and built-in Wi-Fi 802.11n. Unlike the Toshiba Satellite P755-S5215 ($ 719.99 list, 3 stars), it is not WiMax or Widi 2.0 in this model. Together with the lack of USB 3.0, L755-S5214 is not exactly in the future.

L755-S5214 hard drive is par for the course, which has a capacity of 500 GB and rotational speed of 5,400 rpm. No DVD ± RW drive on the right side of the laptop to play and burn discs. Handset also has an integrated webcam and microphone for video chatting.

On the software side, there is a 30-day trial of Norton Internet Security, Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, and Google Chrome, as well as additional bloatware like Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. Toshiba batteries in its own custom software so you can uninstall the Place of the book and the board immediately.

Toshiba offers a one-year warranty parts and labor warranty and one year for battery.

Performance

The L755-S5214 uses an entry-level processor Intel Core i3-2310M and has 4 GB of RAM. This association has helped scores some decent portable land on our comparative tests of productivity. He beat Asus BBL5 on PCMark U56E-7, which tests the overall capabilities of the computer. The L755-S5214 scored 1952, Asus-U56E BBL5 scores in 1920, despite its powerful Core i5 (although this small difference may be negligible in the scenarios of everyday life).

In tests of the game, L755-S5214 did not fare so well. Its integrated graphics card, it worked Crysis (DirectX 10, DX10) 10.7 frames per second (fps), and Lost Planet 2 (DX9) at 17.7fps for medium detail and resolution settings. Asus U56E-managed 22.6fps BBL5 Lost Planet 2, still playable (at least without setting numbers even more), but better.

L755-S5214 has been put a little 'less than in other financial management systems, multimedia testing. It took 2 minutes 25 seconds at the end of our video encoding tests handbrake, and 5:34 to stop our testing Photoshop CS5. Asus U56E-BBL5 completed these tests in 1:55 and 4:13 respectively, although the P755-S5214 L755-S5215 batter, which lasted 2:39 and the parking brake, and much longer than 6:37 in Photoshop.

Battery life is a L755-S5214 is not particularly impressive compared to what you get from the budget laptop. L755-S5214 six-cell, 48Wh battery only lasted 3 hours 43 minutes our MobileMark 2007 battery test. Both the HP Pavilion dv6-6013cl (a six-cell battery 55Wh) and the Toshiba Satellite P755-S5215 (with six-cell battery 48Wh) has just over 5 hours, and Asus-U56E BBL5 eight 74Wh battery that the laptop 7:34 has helped great.

In a time when budgets are tight, a good price can mean a lot. Toshiba Satellite L755-S5214 is a low price, $ 100 less than some of its competitors, which also means a lack of advanced features such as Widi and USB 3.0. L755-S5124 is a good choice for those who only need to do the most basic. But who can spend a little 'more should take a look at the HP Pavilion dv6 6013cl-choice or our Editors' Asus U56E-BBL5 other features, better build quality and performance.
