Toshiba R845-S80 Review

Toshiba R845-S80 ($ 649.99 at Staples) sports a nice ribbed finish and a battery that will take you through a whole day. A second generation i3 Core processor and features like USB 3.0 and 2.0 WiDi technology makes this laptop a good value for budget-conscious consumers, but there are more efficient notebook be had for about the same price.

Design

Weighs 4.4 kg, the R845-inch thick S80 is one of the lightest 14 inch laptop around. In comparison, the Dell Inspiron i14RN4110-7616DBK (list $ 649.99, 3 stars) and weighs 5.2 pounds and U46E-BAL5 Asus ($ 699.99 list, 4.5 stars) weighs 4.9 pounds. A polished chrome Toshiba logo adorns the front cover, which is done in a black finish resistant magnesium alloy tag with a pattern of blue ribbed relief. A pair of polished chrome hinges makes the laptop look more expensive it is and gives you a strong lasting impression.

Under the lid is a bright 14-inch display with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768. The screen has an antiglare coating and offers bright and vivid colors and black ink, but the screen darkens considerably when viewed from a side angle. The two small built-in speakers above the keyboard are thin and not very strong. The R845-S80 has a full-size spill-resistant keyboard, but it lacks a numeric keypad.
