Home theater aficionados will love the screen resolution to 1080p, built-in Blu-ray, and the cool sound speaker system. And parts of portable power is impressive. Design

Laptops usually have a large bulky, plastic construction. AS8950G-9839 is an exception here, because of its huge aluminum cover draped. Although I would not call this laptop thin, aluminum is a slimming effect that covers some of the bulk that you see on other laptops such as Toshiba Qosmio Media Center X505-Q850 and Asus G73SW-BST6 ($ 1,299.99 list of 3.5 stars ) with its counterparts with a plastic chasses. Unlike the Dell XPS 17 ($ 1,670 direct, 3.5 stars) AS8950G-9839 does not use aluminum down. Interior color AS8950G-9839 is responsible for the cover, well, the palm rest, which is dressed in black, the contrast.

The AS8950G-9839 weighs 8.3 pounds mass, which is not bad compared to some smaller notebooks like the Dell XPS 17 (8.1 pounds) and Asus G73SW-BST6 (8.3 pounds). It weighs about the same as its predecessor, the Acer Aspire AS8943G-6782 ($ 1,600 street 4 stars).

The 18.4-inch screen is glorious, not only because it is large enough to accommodate three people sitting side by side in front of him, but also because its 1080p (1920 by 1, 080) shows the best of the best in laptop screens. In comparison, the Asus G73SW-BST6 and HP Pavilion dv7-4283cl ($ 999.99 list, 4 stars) do not fit most of 1600 x 900. The keyboard is not the average Acer seen in office replacement budget laptop, where the keys are a bit flat and placed closer. The AS8950G-9839 with silver buttons that looks as if the germination of the founding of aluminum, and are well above, also for a better response. The experience of writing would be more complete had been launched in Acer LED-backlit, like those found on the Dell XPS 17 and Toshiba X505-Q850.

The touchpad is unique in that the touch of a button (between the mouse buttons) makes it a digital remote control, with icons that let you control the film (and music) and start reading a reader multimedia. The texture of the touchpad, but navigating a glass screen. It causes friction, especially when your hands are slightly damp.

Characteristic

Thanks to its size, AS8950G-9839 can accommodate a variety of functions. It has five USB ports, USB 3.0 uses the technology to a compatible device that can transfer data at 10 times the speed of USB 2.0. To take advantage of 1080p resolution, Acer has launched a Blu-ray, which not only plays the latest Blu-ray, but can burn DVDs as well. An HDMI port is available if needed, although I do not see why you would with a giant screen.

VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, Card Reader (front) and a 2-megapixel webcam, are features found on any notebook. The FireWire port on the other hand, is a rare sight these days, and you can use one of the AS8950G-9839 port for connecting digital video and storage units available. Acer did not neglect the audio system. The AS8950G-9839 is compatible with Dolby 5.1 surround sound and is loaded with five speakers and a subwoofer. High-fidelity sound, as you might imagine, was sublime. I would have liked to have seen two hard drives and less than a terabyte of storage in a notebook of this size, but only 750 GB hard enough.

Performance

Like many other phones that come Labs PC these days for large or small the sport AS8950G-9839 Intel Core second-generation technology. Its quad-core 2GHz Intel Core i7 CPU 2630QM is the latest and one of the most powerful processors available. The AS8950G-9839 is also equipped with 8 GB of memory, ideal for hardcore Photoshop, programmers and users of database virtualization program. The processor and memory combo turned in an impressive number of PCMark Vantage (8211) and Photoshop CS5 (03:52) tests AS8950G-9839 hit-Asus G73SW BST6 (7845, 3:56) and Dell Inspiron 17 (6367, 04: 42). Hardcore gaming is not excluded that AS8950G-9839 contains a very good graphics chip AMD Radeon 6850M. He broke the 10,000 mark in 3DMark06 and accumulated impressive frame rates in Crysis (48.4 frames per second) and Lost Planet 2 (47.7 fps).

Although not the best gaming machine, the AS8950G occurred in large MobileMark 2007, a battery test. Part of the reason is that your battery 87WH of the largest in this group, the other has to do with the latest Intel Core architecture, which is more efficient than the quad-core processor from its predecessor. Consequently, AS8950G-9839 scored 5 hours 22 minutes, which is unprecedented for a 18.4-inch laptop. In comparison, the Dell XPS 17 (03:01), Asus G73SW-BST6 (3:31), and Toshiba X505-Q850 (1:20) followed by a wide margin.

18.4-inch Media Center is no doubt that the point of view, by intimidating, but anyone who needs the largest screen possible to appreciate what a laptop Acer Aspire AS8950G-9839 has to offer. Its screen resolution of 1080p, the characteristics of home theater (surround sound Blu-ray and 5.1), and connections are more than what you can find other Media Center. Its components are par for the course as the other major media centers, but what distinguishes him is that when the road is not entirely excluded, with a long battery life.

But it did not meet the Dell XPS-17 and Asus G73SW BST6 in all our gaming tests, especially when the viewing pleasure was all bent.
