G9 Archos 101 (250GB) Review

G9 101 (250GB) ($ 469.99) 3.2 Honeycomb is the Android-powered, 10.1-inch tablet. But unlike other tablets, G9 101 (250 GB) contains a 250GB Seagate Momentus Thin mechanical hard drive with 4 GB of flash cache, which is a murderess amount of memory for video enthusiasts. Archos says this version is a "hybrid" to limit the rotation of the hard drive and automatically reduce power when it is not necessary, in order to save energy and protect the data.

We have not reviewed the 250 GB version because it has not yet been published. We have read the 8GB flash version, which is slightly thinner (0.5-inches deep) and lighter (23.8 ounces instead of 27.7 ounces). Otherwise, both models are identical. Archos 101 Android tablet G9 is a solid value conscious, gently HD 1080p video playback, HDMI, and unusually for an Android tablet a 1Ghz TI OMAP4 dual-core processor.

The performance was solid, but not significantly different from its competitors, and some bugs marred the overall experience. Keep an eye on the Archos website that the company was pumping updated firmware for the G9 101 on a solid foundation
