Samsung Series 5 ChromeBook is the first alternative netbook on the market in order to use Google Chrome the operating system instead of a more traditional operating system like Windows. Based in large part to Google Cr-48 cell prototype that we have previously discussed, this portable 12-inch thin and light offers two years of free access to Verizon's 3G for the price after the purchase of $ 500. Is this a good deal or ChromeBook is just "a browser in a box?"
If you have already seen our review of Google Cr-48 prototype as the overall design and technical specifications of the Samsung Series 5 ChromeBook should look very familiar. In truth, it seems that Samsung engineers did a little more than add a few turns and change some ports on Google Cr-48.
To this end, the ChromeBook design is a sort of hybrid between a consumer and low-cost laptop business laptops. For a traditional clamshell shape, with lots of straight lines and rounded corners. Open the lid and you will see a more modern sleek looking chiclet-style keyboard and touchpad MacBook-esque and a covered "means" a matte finish.
The cover of the screen of our review unit has a bright "Arctic White" paint job with both Samsung and Google Chrome logo on the left side. Samsung also offers a ChromeBook "Titan Silver" end if white does not look professional enough for you. The cover provides adequate protection, but is heavily under pressure. The bottom of the laptop chassis is a semi-gloss black plastic is prone to fingerprints and traces visible. A quick look at the bottom of the ChromeBook not to reveal the access plates and no removable battery. The chassis feels sturdy enough for a low cost 12-inch laptop, but you hear a grinding of plastic and a few crunches, pressing the palm rest and rotate slightly.
Although I generally like the design of the Series 5 ChromeBook, I'm not sure how to react to potential customers. The ChromeBook is too big to enter the netbook mold of traditional 10 inches or 11 inches, but the performance ChromeBook missing (see below) over the "books" as they share the same external dimensions. I guess only time will tell if consumers and businesses believe that a Google netbook with improved access Verizon 3G is $ 500
Ports and Features
Relatively clean 5 Series ChromeBook port available for choosing a laptop. Samsung to give its own mini-VGA for external display (VGA adapter included), two USB 2.0 ports, a built-in SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card reader, and one of the audio jack. Also hidden in the SIM card slot on the right side of the laptop, if you already have a 3G service plan.
